Every Vote Counts: Tied Election in Montana

In 2004, Jeanne Windham defeated Jack Cross and Rick Jore for the Lake County seat in the Montana State House of Representatives. Mr. Jore led Ms. Windham by a single vote, before a recount found that the race was tied 1,559 to 1,559. The outgoing Governor broke the tie by appointing Mr. Jore to the seat, before the Montana Supreme Court ruled that Ms. Windham was the winner – based on the review of 7 contested ballots – which eventually gave her party control of the legislature for the first time since 1977. #VotingMatters #2018Midterms #Montana
